Documentation

Removing risk from business is not always easy; reducing the impact is a little more predictable. If a member of your team left tomorrow, how much knowledge are they leaving behind? Every process of every system may one day need supporting and without comprehensible documentation, that might not be possible. At the very least, it makes hitting the ground running much more feasible.
We recently helped out a blue-chip company who increased their customer base by procuring a number of smaller, less successful businesses within their industry. They obtained the client base, systems and processes, but almost none of the personnel. None of the systems were documented. An intensive analysis process allowed us to create detailed documentation, but needless to say, it would have been much more efficient to keep records as processes were created.
